Under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025. Real-money online gaming is prohibited nationwide. The accompanying rules took effect on 1 May 2026, and banks, UPI and card networks are legally barred from processing money-gaming transactions. Offshore platforms that are not registered with the Online Gaming Regulatory Authority of India are explicitly illegal to operate — and to use.
Penalties: Fines of up to ₹1 crore, or up to 3 years' imprisonment.
